  • How well metal stamping can form to specification with that material
  • How the part will perform in the application and operating environment
  • Material cost and availability
  • Material properties

MATERIAL TYPES

FERROUS METALS
Magnetic, contain iron and have limited resistance to corrosion.

NON-FERROUS METALS
Do not contain iron, which gives them more corrosion resistance.

PRECIOUS METALS
Often used as a plating or coating on stamped parts. Designing a stamping process that conserves metal is critical due to its high cost and at times limited availability.

NOBLE METALS & OTHER MATERIALS
Known for their resistance to oxidation and corrosion.
